The short version: Your mental health data belongs to you. We don't collect it, we don't store it, and we don't sell it. Your data stays on your device and in your private iCloud account — we never have access to it.
Clarus is an iOS mental health app built in Ireland by Eoghan Homan. When we say "we" in this policy, we mean the team behind Clarus.
The following data is created and stored entirely on your device and, if you're signed into iCloud, synced to your private iCloud account via Apple's Key-Value Storage. We never see, access, or store this data on any server we control:
iCloud sync is handled entirely by Apple. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest using Apple's infrastructure. We have no access to your iCloud account or its contents. If you don't use iCloud, your data remains solely on your device.
When you use the "Talk it through" feature, your messages are sent to Anthropic's API (the company behind Claude) to generate responses. This means:
You can read Anthropic's privacy practices at anthropic.com/privacy.
If you choose to sign up for launch notifications (on our website or in the app), we collect your email address and, optionally, your first name. This is stored with Buttondown, our newsletter provider. We use it solely to notify you about Clarus updates. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Clarus uses the following third-party services:
Since we don't store your data, there's nothing for us to retain or delete. Your data lives on your device and in your iCloud account. If you delete the app, your local data is removed. If you want to remove iCloud data, you can do so through your device's iCloud storage settings.
Clarus is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
As Clarus is built in Ireland and subject to EU law, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Since we don't collect or store your personal data on our servers, most of these rights are automatically satisfied. For newsletter subscribers, you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your email data by contacting us.
If we make changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, notify users through the app or our newsletter.
If you have questions about this policy or how Clarus handles data, you can reach us at info@clarusapp.ie.
